How does a SPIRO pipe work?

What is it?

A Spiro pipe is simply a metal “tunnel” for conducting air. It is made of galvanized sheet metal rolled into a spiral—hence the name “Spiro.” This makes it rigid, straight, and prevents it from bending like an accordion. The zinc coating protects against rust, so the pipe will last for years.

What is it for?

For ventilation, heat recovery, and air conditioning. It transports air from point A to point B: from the control unit/heat recovery unit to the rooms and back. It works well in homes and halls-this is the “main route” through which air flows.

How does a SPIRO pipe works?

The inside of the pipe is smooth and round, which allows it to transport larger amounts of air than rectangular ducts. This means less resistance, quieter operation, and less effort required by the fan. The diameter is selected according to the flow: the more air, the larger the diameter (e.g., Ø125, Ø160, Ø200, Ø250 mm).

How to connect them?

You insert one pipe into the other using a simple connector (a so-called nipple). You tighten it with a clamp, seal it with tape or sealant, and you’re done. No “magic” tools are needed. The standard length is 3 m (often divided into 2×1.5 m for shipping).

Why SPIRO?

– Rigid and stable – does not collapse during installation and under negative pressure.

– Airtight – less air “escaping,” better performance.

– Corrosion resistant – zinc coating does the job.

– Effective – smooth interior and round shape = less pressure loss.

– Universal – fits elbows, tees, dampers, anemostats, air intakes/exhausts, etc.

What to watch out for (so as not to mess up simple things):

– Do not forcefully narrow the diameter “because that’s how it turned out in the wall” – noise and resistance increase.

– Make tight connections (tape/compound + clamp or gasket) – otherwise air will escape.

– Provide supports/clamps every few meters – the pipe will not “dance.”

– Spiro pipe is made of metal – if air flows through it, ALWAYS insulate it.
